Our last summer vacation my wife
and I have spent sailing on the Adriatic Sea in Croatia. Our main location was
the town of Trogir, situated on a small island between the island of Čiovo and
Croatias mainland.
Trogir is a popular sea-port and destination because of its natural protection and position. Nautical experts love Trogir because
it is situated in the middle of Dalmatia, and the other famous cities like
Split, Dubrovnik, Zadar and Šibenik are very close.
The
town of Trogir has its own ACI marina which can be found on the island of
Čiovo. The marina is connected to the town of Trogir by a bascule-bridge, but
that bridge does not open. We approached the marina from the west, but that is
not substantial because the marina can also be approached from the east.
Trogir is on the UNESCO list of the World
Cultural Heritage as the best preserved Romanesque-Gothic town in Central
Europe, so it was logical that the first thing we did after docking in the
marina was that we went site seeing. We took a tour to the town of Trogirs most
famous building the cathedral of St. Laurence. While walking through the old
town and while looking to all of the town walls, we were sure that Trogir really
is a historic town filled with many cultural monuments you can see from both
the land and the sea.
During
the day, we spent our time on the beach, but since Trogir doesn’t have its own
beach, we had to go to the island of Čiovo where we enjoyed a quiet and
relaxing atmosphere under the worm sun. Trogir has many night bars, restaurants
and a few clubs, so when the night came we could also just relax and explore
the towns gastronomical offers to our hearts content.
Besides
the town of Trogir, Trogirs Riviera has around 20 islands and numerous islets
that are all very reachable.
On
our way back, I asked my wife how did she experience Trogir? She said that in her
eyes, Trogir is a small town in which the time has stopped, filed with happy
and always in a good mode locals. A perfect place for relaxing and escaping
your ever day routines.
